This past weekend the Fleischman family took their annual trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend a huge Ford gathering. Every June tons of people, along with their cars, travel to Tulsa for several days of racing, visiting, and car shows. We drove up with Pat and Krista on Friday. We had views similar to this for about 6 hours. By the way, if you are traveling with small children make sure you have all the proper adapters for the portable DVD player with you before leaving home. 6 hours is a long, long time with nothing to do and no Disney to watch!
We did make it to the hotel without any major problems. We pulled up and parked right in front of the hotel.
After check in, we went to a little Mexican food restaurant where the waitress thought Pat needed to wear the sombrero and have a little dessert to celebrate his birthday.
There are always some impressive cars in the hotel lobby. It is nice to look at them in the refreshing, cool hotel out of the heat.
I am trying to figure out how to put 3 kids in the back seat of one of these! Let me know if you have any great ideas.
On Saturday, we got up and made our way out to the drags. The weather was SO HOT. The air temp was over 100 degrees. The temperature on the drag strip was 152 degrees. We staying in our little spot on the grass, under the canopy, out of the sun. We were all just trying our best to stay hydrated. Occasionally we would actually make our way over to the bleachers and watch some of the races. This one was crazy, an old white Mustang and a new white Mustang. It started out okay, but ended a little differently.
I just picked one of the many pictures I had of this one. The older car started spinning around while it was going down the track. It was totally out of control. If you look the back wheel was actually off the ground in this picture. Amazingly, the driver never hit the wall. He must have had an angel riding with him. Both he and the car were good as new.
My father-in-law's Edsel made a few passes down the track. No fires this year!! Whoooo Hoooo Those who know, appreciate this!
Pat took Krista's car down the track too. Macy continues to police us if we slip and say Pat's car. She makes sure no one gets the wrong idea about this car's ownership.
On Sunday, there is a car show in the hotel parking lot. Lane was watching out the window at all the cars moving around. From 8 stories up, he had quite a view.
While we were taking our time getting ready, our boys went down to get the cars cleaned up for the show. Branson is big enough to be a big help to his dad these days.
After the car was cleaned up, we made it across the street to IHOP for some breakfast. They had a "clown" that made balloon animals. I use the term "clown" so very loosely. He was a bitter man, complaining about money. He was literally telling kids about sleeping in his car. Hmmmmm, wonder if he was in the wrong profession. You can see him in the background here. The kids didn't care what he said. He did make cool balloons!

I think Susan secretly likes the wagon. Now I know what to get her for her b-day!
